The Charming Bird Of Time ‘continues To Spread Its Wings And Fly High

Jaquet Droz has launched two new works for the extraordinary masterpiece that won the Grand Prixd’Horlogerie de Genève Award.

Fang Zun is hard to find, like gold. Jaquet Droz’s ‘Charming Bird’ is like a wonderful flower in the garden of fine watchmaking. This is the first and still the only watch with a timepiece. This masterpiece of automatic dolls embodies the talents of Pierre Jaquet-Droz, and won the Grand Prixdel’Horlogerie de Genève award as soon as it came out in 2015. Now the brand has launched two new products (red gold and platinum), with an ivory large open flame enamel dial, each limited to 8 pieces.

‘Charming Bird’ is a veritable mechanical product, condensing many years of research and development, and holds two patents. It is a wonderful mechanical art created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz 280 years ago. (Artdel’Emerveillement) History writes a whole new chapter. This work ingeniously combines Pierre Jaquet-Droz’s extraordinary watchmaking skills with superb mechanical craftsmanship, making the amazing automatic dolls glamorous at the wrist. Jaquet Droz’s persistent and unremitting exploration has resulted in an excellent miniature process.

This timepiece is equipped with two independent movements. The first movement powers the hour and minute display at the 12 o’clock position of the large ivory enamel dial, while the second movement is used to drive automatic dolls.

The automatic doll movement can run for 40 seconds after it is fully wound. ‘MagneticSpeedControl’ magnetic adjustment mechanism allows the timekeeping bird to sing smoothly. This technology first avoids contact between parts, which reduces friction and delays aging. In addition, the power adjustment device thus operates in a quieter manner, eliminating noise, and making the singing of the timebird more pleasant.

This mechanism releases the compressed air in the three sapphire crystal tubes in an irregular manner through the organ tube, playing a smooth melody, and the bird moves with the rhythm, which can be described as the first in the watchmaking industry. This ingenious installation reflects the long-standing heritage of Pierre Jaquet-Droz, a watchmaker who created naturalist-style works, including snuff bottles, on the theme of birds almost 300 years ago. And automatic dolls such as the bell ringing bell.

The time bird in ‘Charming Bird’ is carefully carved and painted in the Jaquet Droz art workshop. This bird is a veritable masterpiece of miniature craftsmanship, spreading its wings slowly above the movement that powers it. The exquisite hand-carving is clearly visible through the watch’s sapphire mirror. The two new products of ‘Charming Bird’ (Charming Bird) are made of white or red gold, carrying Jaquet Droz’s breathtaking mechanical art, soaring to a whole new field of imagination.
